PAINT IN THE PARK
Saturday, June 13, 2020 – date change
Chisholm Trail Heritage Center & Simmons Center Park Area
DUNCAN – Imagine a shotgun start at 9:00 am sharp in the beautiful surroundings of lush green grass, beautiful landscape, and even a park nearby. Now imagine artists, beginners and experienced alike, as they begin to cover their canvases with the colors that surround them. They have two and a half hours to create a beautiful plein air masterpiece before the horn signals the end of the event. At that time, artists will gather and share their artwork with other participants as the judging begins.
The Chisholm Trail Arts Council is pleased to present the 4th Annual Paint in the Park that will be held on Saturday, June 13th in the area of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center (CTHC) and Simmons Center Park in Duncan, OK. The original date was set for May 30th, but CTAC has decided to push it back a few weeks due to the recent events of COVID-19. Visitors are welcome to watch, at a distance, local and visiting artists as they use different techniques to transform a blank page or canvas into a beautiful works of art. The first place winner will win $250, second place - $150, third place- $75 and even some honorable mentions will be awarded to deserving artists. These awards are available through gracious donations from the community.
Paint in the Park is a time for artists of all ages to practice “plein air” painting, meaning all work is completed outside in natural conditions. Artists will meet at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center and will be given a blank canvas. Artists are responsible for bringing their own supplies. Acceptable mediums: oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, or pencil may be used.
The event will start exactly at 9:00 am. The artists are given a 2 ½ hour time limit to create their masterpieces. At 11:30 am, artwork will then be submitted and judged by artist, Lou Baggett of Duncan, OK. Entry fee will be $10.00 for current CTAC members and $15.00 for non-members. Early registration can be made at CTAC, 810 W. Walnut, Duncan. Registration will also be available on the morning of the event at the Heritage Museum between 8:30-9:00 am.
