"Saddle Up and Write" is a creative writing experience hosted by the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center, for sixth-grade writing students from Duncan, Empire and Marlow middle schools. Students attend two sessions during the school year, at the Heritage Center, with Dr. Nathan Brown as their instructor. Now in its eighth year. Brown uses the Garis Gallery of the American West, CTHC temporary exhibits and the student's own experiences as inspiration to create poetry and short stories. These works are then published in a small booklet for each student.
The reception begins at 1:30 p.m. and some students read their favorite selections. Refreshments are available after the event. This event is funded by the Oklahoma Arts Council and CTHC members.
